The
Knight View ...
Auburn Council 207 Newsletter
Grand Knight’s View
My Dear Brother Knights, Friends and
Readers:
An apology is
not sufficient. It has been an inordient amount of time since I last had a
column. Actually it has been a long
time since we even had a meeting. The
Council and I have been extremely busy and I just haven’t dedicated the time
to get a newsletter off to you.
During the
summer, which is now over, it is extremely slow.
We usually hold two events in the summer months.
First we have Memorial Day, which is HUGE “Billy” really HUGE!
Then we usually have a summer dance, which we had and this too was very
successful. These two events are
the main stay to the club for five months when business seems to dry up.
This of course is for the club business.
The council business never dries up.
We get requests for donations almost every day.
This brings me to the topic of this letter.
In many past
letters I have wondered why there are not many in the ranks wanting or ready to
take over. Today’s society puts
great burdens on everyone. Today
you are a parent, teacher, coach and sometimes all of these and more, one more
responsibility is all you need. Yet
someone has to do it, so let the other guy do it.
Well this will only work for a while and then chaos.
This organization needs a strong cabinet in order to keep it going.
(I try to include this in every column, just in case someone weakens to
the idea).
As your Grand Knight I have read hundreds of letters for
request or support. Some are simply
requests to keep sports programs alive or for taking out a page of advertisement
to help the program. This is
normally to help the local city or county programs out, also to sponsor local
teams. This again requires little
thought, it is our responsibility to help when we can.
Yet are we doing the best for our dollar, are we targeting the folks who
really need us or are we taking out an advertisment that says hey we are really
a nice organization. I wonder?
While I realize that many organizations rely on people like us I also
realize that we need to be in the business of promoting quality in life before
quality of existence. The Holiday
season is upon us and with this come many opportunities.
First is the Christmas Appeal. Every
year we appeal to our members to donate to the Christmas Appeal. The
funds generated from this campaign help the less fortunate to enjoy the
Christmas Holiday. Christmas is the
time to revel in the Love of God. It
is easy for some because we have abundance in our lives. It is more difficult to Love when you are hungry or just
plain down on your luck! I urge you
to give to the Christmas Appeal.
The Knights of
Columbus golf league donated two hundred dollars to the Children’s Christmas
party, which will be held December 8th.
Thank you one and all!
My personal
thanks to all the volunteers that help put on our pancake breakfasts, a special
thanks to Sam and Sheila Giangreco These
events are held to benefit organizations, and the volunteers are there no matter
which organization is being honored. The
normal split is fifty – fifty after expense.
Normal take for the morning around $250.00 to $300.00 apiece.
We are putting in a sound system. Some day you will have a Grand Knight that can’t yell as
loud as I can, (hopefully very soon, he will need a system).
We have cancelled the Monthly Mass, which was held the
first Thursday of each month, embarrassment led to this, seven or eight people
is laughable. (Who ever heard of a collection of ten dollars)?
We should be ashamed.
Today as I
write this news letter I ponder! Today
November 19th, 2002 Jim Balloni has passed away leaving a legacy
“that everyone has the power to make a difference, that humanity is about how
we live our lives”. Enough said
my thoughtful prayers to a remarkable individual.
We have not had
a meeting this year, reason being is this, first I was away in September, then
Joe LoPiccolo retired in October,( I went to his dinner to be sure), from what
no one knows. Thanksgiving in November, and we will not have a meeting in
December due to the Christmas holiday. Regular
schedule will resume after the first of the year.
I leave you
with this, life is a journey. There
are many roads along this journey. Some
of us may get to our destination with no major detours.
Others may find the road filled with turns and obstacles.
Some times we may not understand why these roadblocks have been placed in
our way. All of us may question why
we ventured down this road. “A person on meeting the Lord asked Him a
question. Lord he said while
walking along the shore of life I often noticed that there were two sets of foot
prints in the sand Yours and mine. Yet
when the difficult times came along I noticed that there was only one set of
footprints in the sand. Why did You
leave me at my most difficult time? The
Lord looked at the person and said that is the time that I carried you”.
As I ponder my
own life I realize that I am much closer to the sunset than the sunrise, use
your time wisely. Let your legacy, be a reflection of your life.
Your obituary can either tell the tale of your life or what was lacking
in it!
Respectfully
Yours,
Tom Crawford, GK
Long Term Care Insurance Now
available from the Knights of Columbus.
Longevity is something many of
us take for granted these days. Medical advances, coupled with healthier
lifestyles, are enabling us to live 10, 20 or even 30 years longer than previous
generations. There's going to be plenty of time to spend with grandkids... and
even great grandkids.
The catch is, many of us can
also count on needing care in our old age - whether in a nursing facility or at
home.
That can cost upwards of $45,000
per year, forcing you to deplete assets or to rely on your family for help.
Continuing our tradition of protecting families for generations, we've
introduced Knights of Columbus Care - a new Long Term Care insurance plan. It
picks up where Medicare leaves off... preserving the assets you've worked hard
to build. Knights of Columbus Care
is a tax qualified plan available to members (subject to underwriting
requirements) and their spouses ages 45 - 85. Coverage can be tailored to fit
your needs.
Now, the name you've trusted to be your life insurance society can be
depended on to help pay your nursing home expenses, without diminishing the
assets you've taken a lifetime to accumulate. The K of C was founded over a
century ago to provide financial security to our members and their families...
and that's still our number-one mission!
